Toontown and special guest star Kai

First stop after breakfast was Mickey's Toontown. We met up with Michele's college roommate Sharon and her son Kai. Kai is 3 and he was like a movie star for the day. The girls were fighting to sit with him and all 3 were doting over him. Aunty Becki - the girls are all ready for AJ, he will be well taken care of!

Ok, you all know how I love my sweets ;). I think the only thing I live more is pretty sweets - sweets shaped or decorated are my downfall! Here are just a few of the fun foods we have encountered . . .

Sorry, we got back to the hotel last night at midnight so I'm a day behind again. We started day 2 with a character breakfast. We were joined at breakfast by Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, and Stitch!

The poncho gang

Extremely uncooperative weather :(

As soon as we walked out of the hotel in the afternoon, it started to drizzle. But like any Disney enthusiasts we pushed through and were optimistic. But by the time we made it into the park it was pouring! Of course I had packed the ponchos and umbrellas and they were safe and sound in the hotel room! So we ran into one of the many Disney stores to purchase ponchos an umbrellas. Of course we didn't let the rain stop us, but we ended up back at the store to buy pants for Macie (hers were soaked) and new socks! It did put a damper on the afternoon. We were only able to make it on 2 rides before dinner at Ariel's Grotto and watching the new show World of Color.

Second stop . . . It's a Small World

Here we go . . . First stop Matterhorn!

Intervention needed for a true Disney Addict!

Intervention needed for a true Disney Addict!

So for those of you who don't know Papa Mel (my father-in-law) he is a true Disney Addict! So when the opportunity came up to own a little piece of Disney he couldn't pass it up. As a result, Marley, Macie, and Maya had been immortalized on a tile at the entrance to Disneyland!

Let the memories begin!

Next stop . . . Disneyland!

Next stop . . . Disneyland!

Finally, the moment they've been waiting for, Disneyland. Here we are at our hotel, Paradise Pier. It's about 2:30 in the afternoon and we are going to drop off our bags and run to the park!

Scored some Eskimos in Seattle

Scored some Eskimos in Seattle

This morning we said good bye to Seattle and headed to Disneyland. Here we are at the airport with some wayward Eskimo children we found!

Delinquent in my blogging

Hi - Sorry, I was so tired last night, I didn't post any pictures. So keep in
mind these are from yesterday.

Neverending energy!

Even after a jam-packed day (and no nap) the girls were dying to jump in the heated hotel pool tonight. I was concerned they would bother other guests trying to relax, but apparently those folks know better, because the only other people at the pool were other families with their loud children!

Never shop when you are hungry . . . or cold!

Remember when I said it was cold today? Well, unfortunately the old adage about not shopping when your hungry applies to being cold as well. The girls insisted they loved these hats and they convinced their Granny Sandy to buy them for them. For the life of me, I can't figure out when they will wear these again. Come to think of it, they may "accidentally" disappear . . .

Watch the fingers please!

Once we were done with them, we took our chips outside to feed the seagulls. The girls were more into the concept than the actual act. Everytime the seagull got close to grabbing their french fry, they screamed and recoiled in fear (see Marley below)!

All I kept wondering is what the seagulls arteries look like living on a diet consisting mainly of french fries . . .

Celebrating Flounder Day!

Once we were done at the aquarium, we headed for fish, chips, and chowder at Ivar's. Little did we know that Marc shares his birthday with Ivar's founder -Ivar Haglund! Can't you see the family resemblance?

Otterly cute!

Slippery little suckers

We continued our day at the Seattle Aquarium. We stopped to take a picture with the Orca statue outside. I guess the artist didn't want people to climb on his sculpture because he made this thing so slippery! It took us several tries to get this picture - look closely in the picture above (left) and you can see Marley falling on the ground after sliding right off!

Finally - got it!

Little Miss Muffet

We stopped in at Beecher's to watch them make cheese. Marc tried to explain to the girls about curds and whey. Here you can see the large blocks of curd that just came out.

The girls enjoyed watching the process, but enjoyed the fabulous breadzels even more!

Return to the motherland

Here we are at the very first Starbucks! Seattle has been enjoying Starbucks for 40 years now. I had to take pictures, but gave up on coffee since the line was out the door! Disappointed, I just had to walk 20 yards down the street before finding another one ;).

I hope the fish isn't as old as the workers!

We enjoyed browsing through all the "fresh local produce" (according to Macie - they have been studying food in school) including Marley's favorite - truffles (the fungus, not the chocolate). Then we stopped in at the Flying Fish Market. We were surprised to see the supervisor who worked there during our UW days is still there!

A beautiful day at the Waterfront

We only had one full day in Seattle so we headed straight for the waterfront. We started out at my favorite place - Pike's Market.

It was pretty cold this morning, but the girls didn't let it get in the way of a good time. Here's Marley with the market's iconic bronze piggy bank.

The real Taco Time!

Taco Time (according to the GPS woman)

Dirt roads, rivers, and crispy burritos, on my . . .

After finishing up at the ski lodge, we had a simple plan to stop at the Taco Tine in North Bend to get my favorite crispy burrito. My father-in-law has a GPS app and plugged in Taco Time and so began a very complicated and frightening drive to lunch.

The GPS had us get off at an off ramp that turned our to be 2 exits too early. We found ourselves driving through an industrial area, then through a heavily wooded area and then on to a dirt road. The whole time the GPS woman kept giving directions as if we were on the right track. 20 minutes into the drive on the dirt road along side a steep cliff and big river, our GPS guide announced we had arrived at our destination! I don't think so!

We found a wide enough place to turn our giant 15 passenger van around and eventually returned to civilization.

After using the basic map app on my iPhone, we arrived at the actual Taco Time and we all had crispy burritos!

Macie skiing

Pizza slice, french fries, and The magic carpet

Just like yesterday, the girls each got their own instructor. These guys were amazing - so patient and know all the tricks. They taught the girls to ski through and around poles and stop (that's the tricky part)! To stop, you make a pizza slice, to turn you make a french fry, and they had a moving walkway called the magic carpet to bring them back up the hill.

Little aviators

We woke up early this morning to pack and clean up the house before heading down to Seattle. The snow plow arrived at 9:30 to clear the rode and we made 1 last trip to the snow. We only had a few hours, and once I thawed out last night I realized I sprained my wrist, so no skiing for Marc and I today.

But the girls were eager to get back up on the hill. Since I wasn't skiing, I got to take some pictures and video. With their helmets and glasses, the girls look like they were going to fly a plane!

Summary day 2

We have pictures from the day's events, but they were taken on the regular camera and I have no Internet access here so they will have to wait.

The girls had private ski lessons today and did great. Then Marc and I tried to take Marley down an easy run but she didn't appreciate that.

We got to go innertubing which was pretty awesome, 12 icy lanes down the hill and a pulley system to bring you back up!

In the afternoon, Marc and I decided to hit the slopes again while the girls played in the snow. We picked a hill with a blue square and a black diamond right next to each other and not very clearly marked! Long story short, we both took significant rolls down the mountain (Marc 1, Robin 3) and got significantly separated from our skis. Marc managed to make it down the original hill, I dragged myself back up the hill part way to jump on the easier run. Fortunately, we made it down in one piece, bent but not broken. We finished the day on the super easy green circle run being overtaken by 3 year olds with no ski poles!

The girls return tomorrow for another lesson. We will wait until the morning to see if us old guys can walk in the before we make a call on skiing again!

Sometimes bring cheap doesn't pay

Okay all you Yamanes . . . word to the wise, don't buy $5 gloves on eBay! Check out my bargain gloves after one way. In look like a hobo with my finger sticking out the top!

Snow falling from the sky!

So even though it's supposed to be Spring, it snowed tonight! The resolution on my video camera is not so good, but at least I got the girls reaction.

Frosty the snowball

Here is Marley and Macie's attempt at making a snowman. Who knew it was so hard? I was so bummed that I forgot to buy a carrot at the store for the nose, but it turned out we didn't need it. It took almost an hour to build the bottom and then they gave up!

It's freezing here!

Our house is freezing! It is 4 stories tall and if the bottom floor is warm enough to be tolerable the top floor is sweltering! So we had to move mattresses from the bottom 2 floors to the top 2 floors. Since we were moving mattresses anyway, my weirdo daughters decided to sleep in the walk-in closet (they really wanted to sleep on the elf closet but it looks dirty so I said no).

p.s. We ran out of hot water after 1 bath!

Suddenly taller

Something happened as we crossed the Pacific and Marley and Macie grew a foot and a half!

Just kidding! There are some bizarre crawl spaces in the house we are staying in. The girls call this the elf closet.
